It is a 13-digit barcode standard. The EAN-13 barcode is defined by the GS1 standards organisation.<\/p>

EAN-13 coded numbers are product identification numbers. The EAN-13 symbology is the only one that every point of sale will be able to read through optical systems.<\/p>

Barcoding a company and its products is an established trend worldwide. This system allows companies and their products to enter the market with great benefits for everyone in the distribution channel, from the manufacturer to the end consumer.<\/p>

Using the bar coding system opens up distribution channels for the producer, which it would not have access to without this requirement, such as supermarkets and hypermarkets, among others. It also puts them in a position to compete and market their products in international markets that use this coding criterion, allowing them to expand their production capacity and improve their economy of scale.<\/p>

The second beneficiaries of the use of the barcode in the marketing chain are distributors and retailers, who, by having a single language for all their products, achieve a more efficient management of their prices, modifications, maximum and minimum stock.<\/p>

Finally, end consumers also benefit from this coding system.
