They can be made up of elements of three dimensions (Models), or two dimensions (Designs) that should not be based exclusively on the function of the utilitarian article.
- The Industrial Model is the form incorporated into an industrial product that gives it an ornamental character.
- The Industrial Design is the look applied to an industrial product that gives it an ornamental character.
They have a duration of 5 years from the date of the deposit and it may be renewed for two periods of 5 years
(15 in total) according to the Law on Industrial Models and Designs.

The Patent Cooperation Treaty PCT can seek protection by patent for an invention in many countries at the same time by filing an “international” patent application. It can be submitted by nationals or residents of the Contracting States of the PCT. Applicants are able to protect their invention worldwide in 148 countries.
